If you are not quite sure what to do with the image you just downloaded we created little step by step instructions:

Step 1 - Copy the Image

Now that you downloaded the image you have to copy it to your SD card. The instructions depend on your operating system:

Windows users can use the tool Win32 Disk Imager. Just select the image file and the SD card and click “Write”.

Win32 Disk Imager

All needed commands are already part of macOS, you just have to enter the Terminal. In the following example we got a SD card showing up in the Finder as “NO NAME”. If the name od your card differs replace it. Also important to notice is that you have to replace the number behind “disk” whith the one in the return value of the first command. For example if the return value is “disk2s1 unmounted” change your dd command to “of=/dev/disk2”.

  • diskutil umount /Volumes/NO\ NAME
  • Volume NO NAME on disk3s1 unmounted
  • sudo dd if=~/Downloads/cs_image.img of=/dev/disk3 bs=1m

You are using Linux? Then you already know what to do! :-)

Step 2 - connect the controlStation

Next put the SD card in your raspberry, connect it to your router and get it powered up. In about 2 minutes you can get started.

Step 3 - discover it in your network

To find out the IP address your controlStation got follow one of these steps. Alternatively, you can look it up in your router (DHCP server).

On connecting the first time, your web browser will display a certificate warning. The reason for this is that controlStation creates a self-signed certificate on first launch which your browser does not know. The alert shown varies from browser to browser. In safari on macOS, the alert looks like the following. To accept the certificate, click Show certificate, enable the checkbox Always trust and click Continue.
